## Trapezium

Area of Trapezium

Before you study what is trapezium, you are advised to read:

What is Quadrilateral ?

What are Parallel Lines ?

** Trapezium ** is a quadrilateral in which a pair of sides is parallel to each other.

Or we can say, Trapezium is a quadrilateral having a pair of parallel sides.

We can also say that:

In Trapezium, two opposite side are parallel and other two opposite sides are unparalleled.

Observe the following diagram 1:

In the above diagram, you can observe that:

ABCD is quadrilateral

Side AD is parallel to Side BC (symbol '|' indicate parallel lines)

Side AB and DC are non parallel

Hence, we can say that Quadrilateral ABCD is a trapezium.

Following are some more sample diagrams of trapezium:

Trapezium PQRS has PS and QR as parallel lines (symbol '|' indicate parallel lines)

Trapezium MNOP has PM and NO as parallel lines (symbol '|' indicate parallel lines)

Trapezium WXYZ has WX and YZ as parallel lines (symbol '|' indicate parallel lines)
